Goodman Manufacturing is an independent subsidiary of the Daikin Group. Harold W. Goodman founded the company in 1975 in Houston, Texas. It was engaged in the production of flexible ducts and plastic knife registers, eventually expanding its field of activity to gas heating. Goodman Air Conditioner Cleaning Steps
If you want your air conditioner to work as long as possible with maximum efficiency, you should pay attention to it at least once a month. By keeping your Goodman air conditioner in good technical condition, you save money on your energy bills because often contaminated air conditioner components reduce the efficiency of the entire system and increase energy consumption.
The tips below will help you keep your air conditioner in excellent condition for a long time. These tips are best to apply right before the start of a cool season.
Step 1
Let’s start with the exterior unit. To avoid getting electrocuted, make sure you turn off the power before you start. The interior unit turns off the power at the breaker box and uses the shut-off box to shut off the exterior unit’s power.
Step 2
Remove the fan cage, protecting the Goodman condenser outdoor unit with a wrench or screwdriver. Remove any debris that you find inside the unit. This can be done with a clean, dry cloth or with a vacuum cleaner.
Step 3
Remove the outer covers of the device. Remove all external dirt by using the powerful vacuum cleaner head. You can use water from the garden hose after the vacuum cleaner to clean everything accurately. But you need to be extremely careful! You shouldn’t use a pressurized jet, as this can bend or damage the fins of the device. If you think that the fins are particularly dirty, you can use a special spray to clean the fins. If, after all, the fins are bent, in this case, it is worth calling a professional technician who will fix it, otherwise the system will be overloaded, and its efficiency will fall.
Step 4
Clean the space surrounding the air conditioner, as any contamination may prevent the air from entering the unit. During the winter months, install a plastic or plywood lid on the device to prevent dust from entering, however, make sure that the side surface of the air conditioner is not completely covered, otherwise it will cause moisture accumulation and corrosion.
Step 5
Make sure that the capacitor panel on which the capacitor unit is installed is on a flat surface. Any tilting to the side may cause the air conditioner to fail prematurely.
Step 6
It’s time to work on the inside of your unit. Use a soft brush to clean the evaporator coil from dust that accumulates on the coil. Then use an evaporator coil cleaner that does not require rinsing to spray the coil. The spray will foam and then drip into the drain tray. Then clean the evaporator drainage tray, which may be clogged or contaminated with mold. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean it.
